ALL SHE WANTED WAS STRAIGHT HAIR

I had to take a moment and think if I should put this story on my blog. I watched this video on Lovin Sisterlocks facebook page. My eyes teared up as I watched this unfortunate story of a beautiful young lady loosing her hair due to a relaxer.

My personal experience with relaxers are the reason why I chosen to become natural. My hair fell out in clumps. I had a bald spot the size of a quarter that happened due to a relaxer treatment in a professional beauty salon.

That's why it upsets me when I see parents putting these chemicals on small children! If someone has to wear gloves to apply it because of it's toxicity why would i want this stuff on my hair?!

This situation on this video is extreme but it does happen I applaud this young lady for having the courage to make this video to help others. Sometimes having straight hair is so not worth it! Please turn off music ipod below before viewing.

IT FINALLY HAPPENED IM SEEING RED!!!

After 13 months without coloring my Sisterlocks I finally broke down and wanted my red locks back! So I went to a professional colorist here in OKC. Miss J had to lift my black color to apply the red. When my hair dried I realized my front ( basically all my new growth that never had any color) was too red! So I tried to re-color with Textures & Tones Blazing Burgundy to tone the red down. The color toned my locks down EXCEPT for the front lol! So I have a Rihanna thing going on in the front and I dont think that's a bad thing! So now I'm waiting for the color to fade. With everything said and done I'm glad i'm red again and I will NEVER color my hair black again so that I wont have to lift( bleach) my locks no more.

I will continue to deep condition my hair with

1. ion Repair Solutions

2. CD Rosemary Mint Purifying Conditioner

3. Hydratherma Naturals Protein Balance Leave In Conditioner

To help my locks to stay healthy and prevent breakage.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!

Today millions of people will be celebrating that special woman in their lives. Yes mothers are the rocks and foundation that holds up a family. What does Mother's Day mean to me? It's a day to celebrate your mom or that mother figure in your life and to show them how truly you appreciate everything they have done for you. I wanted to celebrate by sharing pictures that I have taken with my mother and son throughout the years.

"Yes. It is true. I was created in you, it is also true that you were created for me. I own your voice. It was shaped and tuned to sooth me. Your arms were molded into a cradle to hold me, to rock me. The scent of your body was the air perfumed for me to breathe." - Maya Angelou

I wish everyone a Very Happy Mother's Day!!!!!

PERM ROD ROLLER SET- KINDA

Alright I called myself breaking out the perm rod roller set last week because I seen another Sisterlock sista rockin a cute roller set. I had the pink medium size rollers and i put about 50 of those rollers in my head. Okay my down fall was I CANT STAND sitting under the dryer! I put sitting under a hot hooded dryer in the same category as going to the Dentist, a GYN visit ,or watching The Blair Witch Project in 3D! Needless to say my curls did not turn out as defined as I wanted. I should point out that I DID have fullness and lots of body :-) I normally 2 strand twist my hair and hair dry but I wanted to do something different after washing my hair.

NATURALLY UNIQUE BEAUTY OF THE MONTH

The Naturally UniQue Beauty for the Month of May is Mrs. Candace Edwards! I started her Sisterlocks over a year ago. I do her Retightenings every 10 weeks while Candace does her own Retightenings every 5 weeks. Candace recently renewed her vows to her loving husband in a beautiful wedding ceremony. Her Sisterlocks were done in a gorgeous updo. Thank you Candace for sharing your journey! Check out her interview below!

1. How long have you had your Sisterlocks?

A: I've had my Sisterlocks approximately 19 months (1 year 7 months)

2. Why did you decide to get Sisterlocks?

A: I was ready to go natural, and I wanted my hair to grow without the other harsh
processes that can hurt my hair. I was impressed on how much time I cut down with
washing and styling my hair.

3. Why did you decide to keep your relaxed ends?

A: To be honest I was not mentally ready at the time to do the "BIG CHOP" It was such a blessing to know
that I still had that option.

4. What do you know now that you wished you knew before getting Sisterlocks?

A: You become dependent on the maintenance. You can only go so long without a re-tight.

5. How many loc's do you have?

A: I believe I have 325 locks.

6. How often are your re-tightenings?

A: Because I live 1 1/2 hrs from my consultant and finances vary. I go to my consultant every 10 weeks, but I re-tighten my own locks
every 5 weeks.

7. What products do you use on your Sisterlocks?

A: I have a scalp condition that requires me to use Selsun Blue shampoo,
after wards I wash my hair with Twists 'N Locs Natural Oil Shampoo, and I use Taliah Waajid
Crinkles & Curls styling lotion. Every couple of days I will spray my hair with olive oil and water.

8. What does your husband think about your Sisterlocks?

A: My husband love my hair..he like to run his fingers through my hair or give my a "mop top".

9. Where can we follow your journey?

A: Unfortunately my life is very busy so I would not even have time to do a blog online (that's why I love Sisterlocks)
but if you have any questions, you are more than welcome to drop me an email www.candaceedwards82@yahoo.com
or look me up on Face book.
